We’ll work with you to create simple, realistic plans to tackle the daily challenges of diabetes, from managing your blood sugar to eating well and staying active. We’re here to support you through tough moments, offer practical solutions, and connect you to helpful resources. Whether it’s managing diabetes with sports, school, or just daily life, we’re dedicated to helping you find strategies that work for you. How can coaching help me in school and athletics?
Coaching can support you in both school and athletics by helping you manage your Type 1 diabetes effectively in these settings. We work with you to create strategies for managing your blood sugar, nutrition, and physical activity throughout the school day and during sports or competition. For school, we help collaborate with educators to ensure you have an effective diabetes management plan in place, so you can focus on learning without worry. In athletics, we offer tailored advice on how to balance your glucose levels during training, competition, and game days, ensuring that diabetes doesn’t interfere with your performance. Whether it’s managing stress, meal planning, or physical activity, coaching empowers you to handle diabetes with confidence, so you can thrive both academically and athletically.
What is Peer Support for T1D?
Peer support for T1D is about connecting with others who understand what you’re going through. It’s having someone who shares your experience and can offer advice, encouragement, and empathy. We provide peer support by helping you connect with others managing diabetes, sharing strategies, and offering a sense of community. Whether you're navigating daily challenges, managing stress, or seeking advice about new tools and techniques, peer support can provide the emotional boost and practical guidance you need. It’s about knowing you’re not alone, learning from others, and building the confidence to manage your T1D with support from those who truly understand.
How can my coach be an advocate?
T1D Coach can advocate for you by helping you navigate school, healthcare, and community resources. They can work with schools to ensure you have a solid diabetes management plan and help you communicate your needs. T1D Coach also connects you to support networks and resources, empowering you to advocate for yourself. How do we connect?
Sessions can be in person at the Old Mill Bend office or remote using google meets. Local clients can have their experience tailored to their preferences. Walking, playing pickleball, and shooting hoops have all been used for coaching sessions!
What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
The main difference between coaching and therapy is the focus and approach. Coaching, especially for T1D, is about helping you set and achieve specific goals, manage daily challenges, and build confidence in handling your diabetes. Coaching is solution-focused and helps you create sustainable strategies for moving forward.
Therapy, on the other hand, typically focuses on addressing deeper emotional, mental, or psychological issues that may be affecting your well-being. While therapy can help with managing stress or emotional struggles related to diabetes, coaching is more focused on practical strategies for day-to-day management and goal achievement.
